Well what a weekend!
We headed north to a secret location to meet up with friends and have a jolly good weekend. Everything started well but quickly went downhill after discovering I had packed the awning but not the poles. Could have been worse as they say.
Still the slight mishap didn’t dampen our spirits and Saturday evening saw us enjoying sitting out with friends around our fire pit and some tasty vitals. As the Iron Monkey and bbq offerings flowed we thoroughly enjoyed our evening until the rain started so we retired to our friends unit and continued the discussion and revelry.
Sunday morning arrived without being over spectacular but boy did it rain overnight, or was it morning, difficult to tell when you’re tucked up under a duvet in a warm van and it’s dark outside.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing and watching the chucks wandering around the site, not quite your average guard dog but the provide an invaluable service.
More rain Sunday afternoon but again sitting relaxing with friends whiling away the hours made a very pleasant weekend even better.
Monday morning arrived, peering through the murk hanging like an old soggy blanket . The chucks came calling looking for scraps and we said our goodbyes to our host and friends.
The road back to darkest Gloucestershire was soggy to say the least and I don’t think the mist lifted until we passed Kidderminster. After a quick diversion into Bridgnorth for some lunch we finally landed home from possibly our last trip out this year.
For those of you interested in such things, my forearm and wrist are healing nicely but I’ve found out that changing gear is still aggravating the I just and have to admit it was burning when we got home. Obviously the muscle is going to take a while to heal.
So where was this little oasis of calm, our weekend getaway. Well it was Bramblewood Caravan Park near Whitchurch. I can’t sing their praises enough, the site and the surroundings are just stunning if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and all it throws at you. I’m sure we will return…..again!
