Life on the Road

Fireworks in Gibraltar

Heading south

Well the week started off on a bit of a downer, we were robbed!!

It was our own fault before everybody starts. We pulled into a service are just south of Barcelona for a break after fighting our way round during rush hour, it was horrendous. Any way long story short, car pulls up and passenger came across and said we had something wrong with one of our wheels. Alarm bells should have started but we were knackered, I know no excuse, anyway as I inspected the wheel the driver reached in and took my bag. Thankfully all they got was €20 but it has left us feeling embarrassed and annoyed.

Moral of the story, make sure your doors are locked and bags out of view and don’t listen to Barca’s scrotes.

Back to the adventure.

As with all of our travel’s they are subject to constant alteration and this trip has been no different.

Our first night after Palamós turned out to be to far especially after the fun and games around Barcelona, so we headed out onto the Delta Ebre and an old favourite at Casa de Fusta. It was packed, a prelude to our stop overs this week.

Following a very peaceful night amongst the salt flats we set off and sought refuge for the night, Thursday 28th, at Thader/IKEA Murcia. A well tried and tested stop over and very popular given it’s location. Once again it was bursting at the seams, even the overflow carpark had an overflow. We have never see it so populated. At least the services were free, probably why it’s so well used.

Friday saw us venture into Vera and The British Overseas Supermarket, or Iceland to you, to stock up on teabags of all things. Came away with €40 worth of goodies including a pack of Lorne Sausage. All good plans eh!

We tried our luck with an overnight stay at El Rancho Carboneras but sadly it was fully booked so instead we took off down to Almerimar for a spot of urban Boondocking.

Many of our long term followers will remember that we used to use a site down here called Pedros Parking. Sadly Pedros and Lisa sold the plot to developers and it’s now a supermarket of all things. Progress eh!

Saturday arrived and after fixing our tap, one of the wires had come loose, we set off for Viñuela and another spot of Boondocking amongst the trees and picnic tables overlooking the reservoir.

However we spotted a laundrette and decided to spend an hour or so taking care of a few domestic duties before the new year.

Over lunch Dad decided rather than make our way down to La Linea on the Sunday why not high tail it and arrive a day early.

Which is exactly what we did. Once again the Marina is heaving, thankfully they have opened a second section to accommodate the extra intake.

So we wrap up 2023 overlooking the Rock and will spend several days here, maximum stay is 72 hours, before starting the slow meander north towards the ferry back home.

I’m not sure if we will be able to manage Europe’s again, several factors are against us but it’s been fun. Thank you for taking time to read our blogs and following via numerous social media outlets.

The fun will begin again on 2nd January 2024, see you all next year

Joanne and James not forgetting Trundlebus
